Advent Calendar Fun with Kaisercraft

DTJ KAC Finished Tree

 Supplies

Kaisercraft Small Tree Advent Calendar
Kaisercraft "Mint Twist" papers
Memory Box Classic Numbers dies
Impression Obsession Mini Square Tags dies
Impression Obsession  Mini Cirle Tags dies
Tim Holtz Distress Stain (Peeled Paint) or spray paints
Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive
Glue Gloss
Stickles, Lime Green
Miscellaneous Trims or Embellishments

1. Dry fit the pieces for the tree.
There are directions in the package to assist!

2. Paint wooden pieces, especially the edges, and allow to dry.
*You can use acrylic craft paint, spray paint, or Distress Stains. Each has a different drying time.

DTJ KAC Painting Pieces

3. Dry fit background paper to flat surface of tree in manner
you'd like pattern to show behind boxes.

*Diagonal stripes are tricky so first make a template out of waste paper
to maximize your paper use and minimize  mistakes.

DTJ KAC Waste Paper

4.  Apply the paper to the tree with Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive.
Allow to dry completely. Trim as needed.

DTJ KAC Putting Together

5. Glue the shelves and spaces to the tree – dry completely.

6. Using Kaisercraft "Twist & Twirl" paper (holly side), cut and apply to outer sides of shelves.

KCR Mint Twist & Twirl

7. Using Kaisercraft "Trimmings" paper, cut and apply to top of shelves.

 KCR Mint Twis Trimmings

8. Trim the edges of the shelves as desired – Stickles, rhinestones, fabric trim, or ribbons work well.

9. Paint outside edges of drawers and assemble.  *You can also paint or line the inside of each drawer if desired.
I used a permanent marker to ‘edge’ the drawers in a coordinating color for a more finished look.

10. Carefully cut drawer fronts from Kaisercraft "North Pole" paper
– the squares fit perfectly!!

KCR Mint Twist Paper

You may use a ¾ circle punch to cut out the finger pull on each drawer
or use a thin craft blade to cut out pulls
after the paper has dried to the front.

DTJ KAC Cutting Squares

11. Use die cuts, stickers or other embellishments as you decide how to number and decorate the front of each drawer.

DTJ KAC Cutting Shapes

The magnetized Genius Cutting Platform system is perfect
to use with the thin dies!

DTJ KAC Genius Platform

 12. Plan your layout of squares and numbers before
adhering them onto the drawer fronts.

DTJ KAC Plan Layout

Glue Gloss works well for applying the small numbers and other die cut shapes.

The Kaisercraft papers each have a decorative narrow edge that can
also be used to decorate with - what a fun Bonus to create with!

DTJ KAC Narrow Strip Edges

Add stickles and other bling as desired to drawer fronts.
Use Diamond Glaze to give an "epoxy" finish to accents, too.

You can  "trim" the front edges of the shelves with ribbon, trim
or with those fun decorative narrow edges from the Kaisercraft papers.
Dry completely.

DTJ KAC CloseUp

13. Insert the drawers, hide treats inside, and wait for Santa!

DTG YOM Finished

   “Year of Memories” for 2012
or ....

how fun would it be to create this as a 2013 “Year of Memories” to give
as a gift to someone (yourself included),
simply leaving spots for the addition of photos and journaling
for each month in the year to come?!?

Supplies

Maya Road 3-Ring Square Round Tab Chipboard Book (C1847)
SRM Stickers  49004 – Live Life Calendar Year; 48093 – Small Numbers; 48090 - Snappy Months Small
Die Cuts/Punches (657827 – Tim Holtz Inside Out alphabet; CAJ004 – A Jillian Vance Photo Frame Dies; EK Success Punches (heart, circles); Crop-a-Dile II (Big Bite); 657472 – Tim Holtz Movers & Shapers Tree/Holly Leaf)
Stamps (3115-XL – Impression Obsession Clingables Solid Tree; 2012037 – A Jillian Vance Universal Zipper stamps
Tags – Ranger; Library Pockets – Bazzill; Ink – Clearsnap Color Box; Tsukineko Versafine
Paper – TPC Studio Let’s Eat; Fancy Pants About a Girl; Echo Park This & That; Simple Stories 100 Days of Summer; American Crafts City Park; Pink Paislee Fetching, Enchanting, Office Lingo; Bazzill (Solids)
Font – American Typewriter Condensed; Stickles – Holiday Red, Lime Green andTim Holtz Distress Stickles – Variety

Embossing Folder – Sizzix #657810 – Bohemian Botanicals; Washi Tape – Black
Polka Dot; Paper Flowers – Prima; Eyelets/Brads – Misc.

DTG YOM Supplies

Begin by painting edges of chipboard album to get rid of the “raw” look of the unfinished chipboard.  Paint 1” margins around the edges, being sure to get the edges as well.

DTG YOM Paint Edges

Cut your papers to cover each of the chipboard pages.  This album calls for paper sizes of about 5” x 5” –justt measure whatever album size you’re using and cut accordingly.  To add more pages in-between the chipboard, now’s your chance – cut those too.  The 100 Days of Summer Vertical Journaling Cards are papers divided into 4”x6” rectangles and fit perfectly in-between this chipboard album, needing no additional decoration!

Ink edges of papers to give your album a more finished look.

 DTG Ink Papers

Adhere papers to the chipboard. It may help to pick your photos before adhering the papers to accentuate a certain color or pattern in a picture. Cover one side, then punch to reinforce the album holes. Cover the other side and repeat punching. (You'll alternate with paper, punch, cover with paper, punch, etc thru the entire album to the end to ensure all holes wind up in the same place!)

 DTG YOM Punch Holes

Punch circles to cover the tabs.  1¼” circles fit perfectly for this book.  Punch enough to cover the fronts and backs of all chipboard pages.

Ink edges of circles as well.
(I know – tedious – but I think it looks so much better that way!)

 DTG YOM Circle Tabs

After all papers are adhered, adhere the circles

and add calendar month abbreviations from SRM Live Life Calendar sheet 49004 on circle tabs.

Alternate paper patterns to make different combinations. You'll notice some post-its on my pages/chipboard sheets.

I find it useful to include these to remind me which sides of which pages fall in what order.

You've now finished the base for your album! Now decorate the pages however you'd like.

DTG YOM Decorate Pages

There are no rules for this part,

so I've just included a few pics of the creative process.

Include tags, pockets, embellishments -
pretty much whatever you want ... have fun with it!

Add pictures and month stickers ....

and tags ....

(don't forget to add "A Year of Memories" from the SRM sticker 49004
on the cover of your book)

DTG YOM Add Titles and Tags

How about some journaling, too ....

DTG YOM Add Journaling

Decorate cover and back.
Ensure that all holes line up and the rings go all the way through.
Insert the rings.

Voila!  Finished Mini Album!

Wow - the possibilities with Karen Burniston's Sizzix "Pop'n Cuts" dies are amazing!

KB Thinking of You Card

We were sooooo fortunate to have Karen visit our store
and showcase her wonderful Sizzix dies and share her creative ideas with us.

Karen kicked off her weekend at Simple Pleasures with an eClips demo. She showed how she used the eCal software
to create images of your own, welding, grouping and the Tim Holtz Stamp2Cut cartridges.

How about a make'n take featuring the Sizzix 3D EvergreenTree pop-up die? So cute and so easy to create.
Karen added the Basic Grey "Happy Holidays" message on inside of the card and added a bit of bling
with Elizabeth Craft red glitter dots, and a ribbon bow on the treetop as a final touch.

Now, how about some Pop'n Cuts Cards?

Pop'n Cuts cards are A2 sized cards, that feature a "pop out" component when you open the card.
The main element of all of the Sizzix Pop'n Cuts cards is the card base die.

KB pop n Cuts Base Die

The base die creates a score at the center of each card, and comes with a pop-out component.
Shown here are six of the different pop-out components available.

The truly great thing about the card base die is that Karen designed it to be simple AND interactive.
Simply switch out the inner pop out component from the base die with any of the many others Karen has designed,
for  many  other types of 3D pop out cards!!

There are more than 12 different pop outs that are available for the base die ....

AND

Karen has designed lots of additional accent to
to accessorize your cards,

"Card Crazy"
August and September Card Club Creativity

Wowsa, where has the time gone? Don't know quite how it happened, but we let August and September sneak by without sharing the great cards from those card exchanges. So, fasten your seat belts, and enjoy two months of card inspiration. Ready, Set, Here We Go ...

 August - Just "Fur" You

So you KNOW that fun times are in the mix whenever we can incorporate "Furry Friends".

Like this Sheepish Guy - cute how Jacque incorporated a late birthday wishes theme in this card!

SPCC Aug Shy Pup

Here's a card featuring a Great Impressions border stamp with a kitty
and a couple of furry puppy dog friends.
The Dog Bone Tag is stamped "Just For You" and the ribbon
has cute little paw prints add just the purrfect touch!

SPCC Aug GIM Border

How about this cute litter stinker .....

SPCC Aug Skunk

Here's another cute card, this one featuring man's best friend alongside a fire hydrant.
The designs were cut with the Silhouette Cameo machine.

SPCC Aug Dog and Hydrant

These were just a few of the fun, furry cards from the August card exchange.
You can see all the cards from the August swap at the store.

For September's exchange, the theme was
"Oh, The Places We Go"

and was a great opportunity for participants to interpret the theme
in whatever direction their imagination took them!

This card evokes some nostalgia as it steps us back in time.

 SPCC Sept Nostalgia

Or how about this card, titled "Enjoy the Journey"

SPCC Sept Enjoy the Journey

A stamped collage card was another of the cards in our September exchange

SPCC Sept Collage

And as we mentioned, creativity in the interpretation of the theme
always makes for fun surprises .....

like this embroidered outhouse card!!!

SPCC Sept Outhouse

So, how would you have interpreted and created with
the themes for August and September?!?

We've got a few more card exchanges coming up
that you can get in on before the year's end.

Come on, don't be shy - we'd love for you to join us!
