Only in Colorado ...... From a Beautiful Fall Day like this
(Check out this any many other phenomenal Colorado photos from "The Pikes Peak Guy" on his Facebook Page) to THIS .....
The following photo, from KKTV 11 News, was the view from our parking lot, at the corner of Library Lane and Montebello. Yes, Simple Pleasures became the base camp for the KKTV 11 News team as they reported this major hailstorm with live shots from our parking lot on their 5:30pm and 6:30pm newscasts. As it turned out, about a one mile radius (yes, we were at the center of it) is where all crazy weather took place. The view from the front door of the store ... Our poor trees and shrubbery - all that green on the ground is shredded foliage

Yes, a river formed outside the back door, what a picturesque winter photo - oh, wait ... it's only September, September 27, to be exact!

There was a mad scramble to locate the snow shovels, as the front door of the store could not be budged - unable to get in OR out! Hail had piled up (about 6 inches deep), quite heavy, and we literally could not budge the door .... so we had to exit the store via the back storeroom, armed with shovels, to come around the front and dig the doorway out. Thanks, Abbey, for being one of our rescuers when the adventure unfolded began.
So, now for the real fun - you see, when all that hail was piling up, there was a bit of an issue with all the water that it brought with it. It seems the only place the water could escape to was under the hail drift - flowing under the door jam and thru whatever crevaces that presented themselves. WELCOME TO OUR ADVENTURE
Yes, that IS a snow shovel used to bail water, in addition to mops and buckets. You see, at this very moment .... the front door was still blockaded by the hail so we were working the adventure from both sides. Evie was another of our customers who helped save the day for Simple Pleasures! We couldn't help but laugh amidst the adventure ...... Cathy had worn sandals with heels to work, so she was working barefooted - do you know how cold hail is on your feet, and ice water, too?!? Here are a few pics "on the lighter side"
What you can't see in this photo is just how WET Becky was getting from the moisture pouring over the top of the gutters - those gutters were filled with hail, too! Did we mention, it was COLD?!
OK, here I was trying to show how deep the hail was ..... brrrrr. When we had gotten most of the water out, except for the fact that it was still squishing thru our toes, ok, MY toes, Angie raced home for her Wet Vac to begin the next phase of the adventure.
Whew, we're happy to report that the area is almost dry. We're crossing our fingers that the heating system located under that section is operational . We'll wait a bit before "testing" it out rather than adding firework pics in the event of an electrical shorts. A HUGE Thank You to Angie, Becky, Abby and Evie for being on the emergency squad AND to all the customers shopping at the time who didn't get quite the level of service and personal attention we like to provide. At the end of the day, we were cold, wet and tired - so Becky made a Hot Chocolate run!
I'll like EXTRA HOT, Please! |
