Only in Colorado ......

From a Beautiful Fall Day like this

SP HS Pike Peak Guy 1

(Check out this any many other phenomenal Colorado photos
from "The Pikes Peak Guy" on his Facebook Page)

 to THIS .....

SP HS Storefront

The following photo, from KKTV 11 News, was the view from our parking lot,
at the corner of Library Lane and Montebello.

 SP HS LL Montebello

Yes, Simple Pleasures became the base camp for the KKTV 11 News team
as they reported this major hailstorm
with live shots from our parking lot on their 5:30pm and 6:30pm newscasts.

 SP HS KKTV

As it turned out, about a one mile radius (yes, we were at the center of it)
is where all crazy weather took place.

The view from the front door of the store ...

 SP HS 5

Our poor trees and shrubbery - all that green on the ground is shredded foliage

SP HC 6

Yes, a river formed outside the back door,

what a picturesque winter photo -

oh, wait ... it's only September,
September 27, to be exact!

SP HS 7

There was a mad scramble to locate the snow shovels, as the front door
of the store could not be budged - unable to get in OR out!

Hail had piled up (about 6 inches deep), quite heavy, and we literally could not budge the door ....

so we had to exit the store via the back storeroom, armed with shovels,
to come around the front and dig the doorway out.

Thanks, Abbey, for being one of our rescuers when the adventure unfolded began.

SP HS 8

So, now for the real fun -

you see, when all that hail was piling up,
there was a bit of an issue with all the water that it brought with it.

It seems the only place the water could escape to was under the hail drift -
flowing under the door jam  and thru whatever crevaces that presented themselves.

WELCOME TO OUR ADVENTURE

SP HS 9

Yes, that IS a snow shovel used to bail water, in addition to mops and buckets.

You see, at this very moment .... the front door was still blockaded
by the hail so we were working the adventure from both sides.

Evie was another of our customers who helped save the day for Simple Pleasures!

We couldn't help but laugh amidst the adventure ......

Cathy had worn sandals with heels to work, so she was working barefooted -
do you know how cold hail is on your feet, and ice water, too?!?

Here are a few pics "on the lighter side"

SP HS Becky Shoveling

What you can't see in this photo is just how WET Becky was getting from the moisture
pouring over the top of the gutters - those gutters were filled with hail, too! Did we mention, it was COLD?!

SP HS Cathy

OK, here I was trying to show how deep the hail was ..... brrrrr.

When we had gotten most of the water out,
except for the fact that it was still squishing thru our toes, ok, MY toes,
Angie raced home for her Wet Vac to begin the next phase of the adventure.

SP HS Angie

Whew, we're happy to report that the area is almost dry. We're crossing our fingers that the heating system
located under that section is operational .
We'll wait a bit before "testing" it out rather than adding firework pics in the event of an electrical shorts.

A HUGE Thank You to Angie, Becky, Abby and Evie for being on the emergency squad
AND
to all the customers shopping at the time who didn't get quite the
level of service and personal attention we like to provide.

At the end of the day, we were cold, wet and tired - so Becky made a Hot Chocolate run!

Starbucks

I'll like EXTRA HOT, Please!

Lynn, Deb and Lisa have done some wonderfully creative cards for us that we want to showcase for you here. These, their latest contributions, feature some of our favorite companies and products --- including Harmonie papers and stamps, Just Rite stamps, Memory Box dies and the Teresa Collins Notations collection pack of papers ......

Notations MBO Two Cards      Aren't they just sooooo elegant?!

Here's a closer look - don't you just love the Memory Box Larue Flourish die as the centepiece of this card - WOW!

Notations Card MBO Larue Closeup

The Notations paper collection pack has many great 12x12 papers with the classic ivory and black color combination. In addition, there are frame elements you can use, like the circle frame used as a backdrop for the Larue Flourish on the card above. The collection also hosts a great sheet of monogram letters, like the one used as the focal point in this card ..... and what a nice accent the fibers and flowers make along with just a hint of pink as a panel.

Notations Monogram Card

The card below left features Authentique embellies, and the card on the right includes Just Rite stamps, in addition to the Memory Box die and Harmonie paper.

And how about these two cards that take the sewing theme to a whole new level ....

Enjoy these card ideas --- a special thanks to our Design Team for these card classics!

It’s not too late to make Handmade Gifts!

Fall is here! Gorgeous leaves, cooler temperatures and my favorite: planning out holiday food and gifts! Looking for a special, personalized gift for someone on your list this year?

Boy, do we have some great ideas for you! These gift ideas are easy and fun to make. You probably already have some of what you need, and what you don’t have…you know you’ll find it at Simple Pleasures!

Check out these Sports Frames that Lisa crafted! I always seem to have a harder time crafting a gift for the boys in the family – not this year!

These sports motifs are printed on canvas. These were colored with Copic Markers and Distress Inks. Color them in their favorite team colors, add a few embellishments and even some personal items, such as team numbers, tickets…etc.

If you’ve been by Simple Pleasures, lately, I’m sure we’ve shown you the Kaisercraft Family Tree that’s on display.

But just in case you haven’t see it:

DT KaiserCraft Family Tree           DT KC Framily Tree Closeup

It’s fabulous, right?! I love how Lyn used different papers for each generation. It’s those little details that make these gifts so special.

Distress Stains, Gold Acrylic Paint, Vintage Groove charms – all these and more ensure this gift will become a family heirloom. The ovals and their hooks are not attached, so you can easily personalize it.

Don’t want to make this a family tree? How about using it to display your favorite quotes, scriptures, even hang pictures of your favorite travels!

In addition to the Family Tree, we also have Kaisercraft Frames and drawers. Isn’t the frame adorable?

ST SS Baby Steps Frame      DT SS Baby Steps Closeup

Deb used a base coat of acrylic paint in cream and then inked it pink with the Spun Sugar Distress Stain. Even the flowers edges were kissed with Spun Sugar.  Reminds me of the nursery rhyme “…sugar and spice and everything nice…” So, pick a theme, papers, embellishments, even dies, such as the Memory Box Butterfly Chain and you can have a gift finished and ready to go in an afternoon!

Don’t forget – there are always mini books. These are easy and quick. They can be made from a base of simple cardstock, chipboard or even acrylic!

Did you get a few of the Memory Box Dies? These are wonderful! Easy to use and the die cuts add wonderful dimension and interest to your projects.

Here are couple of mini books that are on display at Simple Pleasures:

Need more dimension that one layer of cardstock? Cut the same design, such as the Bianca Snowflake, out several times. Stack and glue them together to create a designer chipboard-like embellishment. Easy Peasy, but oh what a difference a little height can make!

Some other ideas for mini books:

Happy Holiday crafting!

Wow! Have you seen the newest Sizzix dies that have arrived at Simple Pleasures? They take customized jewelry and DIY (Do It Yourself) embellishments to a whole new level…

Siz Jewelry 1
Each box cover showcases gorgeous jewelry made using the die, even a close up of the piece, so you can see the detail. My favorite part of the box is the picture on the front that shows you the shapes the die actually cuts - so many possibilities! These dies are steel rule dies, so you can use your favorite materials - Grungepaper, chipboard, polyshrink plastic, even Ten Second Studio Colored Metals and more.
These dies cut shapes that are perfectly sized for smaller projects such as card and scrapbook embellishments, as well as jewelry components.
Hmmm…need an idea or two to start?

Siz Jewelry 3
Ovals #3 is a versatile die. Four different sizes of ovals that you could layer brads, bling, ephemera, etc. onto (and, of course, we could stamp it, too!) We could cut a large oval from Grungepaper and the same size oval using Ten Second Studio's Colored Metal. Adhere them together. Let's emboss the metal/Grungepaper oval using a Sizzix embossing folder to give it texture. What's your favorite color metal? Peacock is a pretty turquoise…
Have you seen the Vintage Groove collection? We could use the Tim Holtz drill press to make tiny holes to attach the oval to a Vintage Groove necklace strand using jump rings.
Fabulous, customized elements…easy peasy, right?

Siz Jewelry 2
Then we could repeat the process to make matching earrings or bracelet and even a matching embellishment for the gift card!
I can't wait to try this - I hope you feel inspired to make a bit of art, too! We'd love to see what YOU make!

Thanks Banner

Over the past few months, we have been sponsoring a card outreach to the tornado-stricken Tuscaloosa, AL area. Your response to our request for card donations was overwhelming. Many of you also donated crafting tools and supplies. We have sent multiple boxes  and have another one ready to ship.

Today we received this banner of "Thanks". It was made by a group of children Michele did crafting projects with at one of the Red Cross shelter centers.  Michele is  our SP "extended family"point of contact there and has facilitated the distribution of the cards and worked with children's crafting outreach there.  Michele lives in Tuscaloose but many of you know her through her participation in our SP Card Club Exchanges

We have the banner hanging proudly at the door. We hope when you see it, it will warm your heart as much as it warms ours. Thanks to each of you who made contributions and thanks to ALL of YOU for supporting our many and various community outreach efforts. You're the Best!

Thanks, Michele, for helping make this outreach idea become a reality. You were KEY to making it all possible, and we are not done yet!
